Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Stephen Atubiga has slammed the opposition party for always discrediting the millions of jobs created by the President Akufo-Addo’s government.

Atubiga defended Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia's claim that over 2.1 million jobs had been created, more than any previous administration.

Speaking to his party members during a health walk at Mpraeso, the Veep said, “During the NDC administration, there were no jobs, they created unemployment, they were not creating jobs, we had the graduate unemployed association, they were creating unemployment, but I have been looking at the data lately and NPP we have created 2.1 million jobs.

“975, 000 are in the private sector, 1.2 million in the public sector, this is verifiable and identifiable data which is available. NPP they were creating unemployment but we create jobs. We are not done yet because there are more jobs for us to create.”

He continued, “But when it comes to job creation, no government since Independence has created more jobs than the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, anybody can challenge me and I will provide the data.

“Every department, we can show progress for this country, but we want to go further, we can get to the promised land. We can be a Dubai, we can be a South Korea, we can be a Singapore, it is possible.”

“It's quite obvious and justifiable for any government to publicize such achievements based on records," Atubiga defended the claim in a lengthy Facebook post after rebuttals from the NDC.

From 2013 to 2016, Atubiga said the NDC froze employment and cancelled many contracts due to IMF conditionalities causing contractors to lose capital and jobs.

"Most lost their capital as the new government terminated many contracts," he lamented.

"The NDC has no grounds to discuss unemployment. See how many positions they abandoned until leaving office," Atubiga stressed.

He criticises the NDC for failing to build capacity of the youth and create massive jobs, saying, "Monkeys hoodwinking while baboons toiled even in opposition."

Atubiga however hailed Bawumia as "one of Ghana's most reputable, righteous and accountable leaders."

While some may differ on government policies, Atubiga advised the opposition that "when Bawumia addresses economic or national issues, abandon your politics and admire his submissions.”

More jobs were created, though economic troubles saw some losses, Atubiga stressed, telling the NDC to "return and scrutinize policies to viably fashion jobs if re-elected. Meaningful, practical job fashioning."
