MAR 29, 2023 LISTEN

Former President, John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at President Nana Akufo Addo mismanaging the country.

He said the President has become an expert in “sod-cutting” with very little to show in terms of infrastructural development.

In his view, Akufo-Addo has lowered the standard of governance in the country with subterfuge and propaganda laced with empty sloganeering without corresponding achievements to show.

Speaking at Kasoa on the first day of his three-day campaign tour of the Central Region ahead of his party’s presidential primaries on May13, Mr Mahama accused the NPP of engaging in empty “sod-cutting”.

The NPP promised to build 101 district hospitals, six new regional hospitals in the new regions, two specialised hospitals in the middle and northen belts as well as a regional hospital for Western Region.

All these hospitals which were to be built under the government’s flagship programme dubbed “Agenda 111” to promote health care delivery, also included an upgrade of the Effia Nkwanta hospital.

According to Mr Mahama, though the President enjoyed funfair during the sod cutting of these and many projects he proposed, they have remained unfulfilled as some sites cleared for the projects were bare.

He, therefore appealed to the charged NDC supporters and delegates in particular to repose their trust in him and renew his mandate to lead the party into the 2024 elections as the flagbearer.

According to Mr Mahama, his experience as a former President would enable him to effectively implement the party’s programmes and initiatives that would ameliorate the plights of all Ghanaians.

The opposition NDC has slated its presidential and parliamentary primaries for the 13th of May where delegates would elect their parliamentary and the party’s presidential candidate.

As a result, Mr Mahama, who has put himself up to be elected to lead the party into the next general election is touring the various constituencies to interact with delegates to vote for him.

His visit to the Central Region first took him to the Ewutu Senya East through to the West, Gomoa East, Effutu, Gomoa Central, Agona East and West Constituencies.
