APR 22, 2021 LISTEN

The Consulate General of the Republic of Ghana in Dubai has revealed that five Ghanaians have been arrested in the United Arabs Emirates in connection with marijuana trafficking.

These arrests have been made at the Dubai International Airport between January and March 2021.

The Consulate General said, “the sad part of it is that, all the parcels containing the weed were given to them [the suspects] by the agents in Ghana who acquired the UAE visa for them, with instructions to them to give the parcels to their counterpart agents in the UAE on arrival. It is also interesting to know that the weed is normally hidden in food items”.

According to the Consulate General, five persons are currently in police detention and one of them has been handed ten years imprisonment “probably for carrying weed he was not aware of and weed that someone else would have benefited from”.

The statement by Ghana’s consulate in Dubai has advised persons traveling to the United Arab Emirates to be vigilant when accepting parcels to be delivered to others following the arrest of five persons for attempting to traffic Marijuana.

The consulate has also advised Ghanaians traveling to the UAE to never accept parcels meant for others without first inspecting the contents of the parcel.
