The headteacher and teachers of Horlivime Basic School in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region have organized a program dubbed 'girl child empowerment mentorship initiative' to educate girls about important roles they have to play in society

Madam Aurelia Tudzi, the officer in charge of girl child education in the Municipality, disclosed to ModernGhana News that, the club will be formed in various schools in the municipality for teachers to train girls to become meaningful and important in future.

She stated that, the training will enable girls to be aware of things such as teenage pregnancy, child abuse, and others.

"They will know the results of teenage pregnancy and it related problems through the workshop," she stated.

She added that, the training will help make great changes in the lives of children in society, and that was the main idea of establishing the program.

She continued that, the training is for all children and not those in schools alone.

Madam Christine Seyiram Tsikplornu, the headteacher of the school, mentioned that the program will equip girls to become important personalities.

She said, the perception that, ladies or girls belong to the kitchen but that is not the case now since women are also occupying important offices in the country.

She added that, what men can do, women can do it best.

Madam Tsikplornu urged pupils to learn hard and desist from bad deeds and companies that will not yield them anything but rather make them premature mothers who will eventually become baby producing machines for the men.

Ekuadzi Robberta, a beneficiary pupil, on behalf of her colleagues thanked the organizers for the program and pledged to obtain and use the ideas and knowledge acquired from the training very well.
