Assemblymembers prepare grounds ahead of rainy season in Asokore Mampong Municipal

Two Assemblymembers from Asawase East and West Electoral Areas in the Asokore Mampong Municipal in the Ashanti Region, Hon Mattew Amissah and Hon Gideon Okai have held a cleanup exercise ahead of the rainy season.

After the exercise, Hon Gideon Okai who spoke on behalf of his colleague, Hon Mattew Amissah who also doubles as a Presiding Member for Asokore Mampong Municipal said the aim of the exercise was to distil gutters, drains and weed out bushy areas to avoid flooding.

Speaking to the Modernghana News, Hon Okai noted that the exercise was also aimed at fighting malaria, typhoid and cholera outbreaks in the communities, as staff from Zoomlion Ghana Ltd and members of a local outfit, One In Town Executive Men Club were invited to take part in the exercise.

On this note, he entreated traders, street hawkers and residents in the area to be responsible and desist from littering the streets and gutters.

He added that such an irresponsible act would not be tolerated after the exercise.

Hon. Okai further hinted that the Assembly together with the Unit Committee Members are devising strategies to ensure that the streets are kept clean.

The chairman of One in Town Executive Men’s Club Nana Agyemang Antobre who took part in the cleanup exercise also urged residents to desist from littering the area.
