Disqualified NPP Aspirant Throw Away Membership Card; Goes Independent In Sunyani West

The Bono Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party has revoked the membership of Bernard Oduro Takyi, the immediate-past Presiding Member of the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly for his decision to contest the December 7 elections as an independent parliamentary candidate, among other reasons.

“This has become necessary after Bernard Oduro Takyi’s many anti-party utterances, actions and machiavellian maneuvers and rendezvous. Leadership in good grace bid him well as we take note of his rebirth with the NDC, his provenance”, an official statement signed by the Bono Regional NPP Secretary Kofi Ofosu Boateng said.

Bernard Oduro Takyi, a former Assemblymember and also a former Polling Station Chairman in the Sunyani West constituency filed his nominations to contest in the NPP primaries but was disqualified during the vetting process.

Not satisfied with this, he appealed the decision of the Vetting Committee but again lost. He then decided to go independent in this year’s general elections, in spite of numerous efforts by the party for him to back down on his decision.

Over the past months, Mr. Oduro Takyi has been embarking on open and vigorous campaign in the various communities in Sunyani West, and calling on the people to vote for him as the MP for the area, come December 7.

Denouncing of membership

In line with Article 3, Clause 9(1) of the NPP’s Constitution, the party says “Bernard Oduro Takyi has on his own free will without any compulsion automatically given up his membership of the New Patriotic Party. Consequently, he is not to hold himself out as a member of the party anywhere across the party’s structure – Polling station, constituency, regional, national and any other groupings in the party.”

The party has also advised him against appropriating any insignia, symbol, paraphernalia, colour, emblem, design and any other material of symbolism which the party holds proprietary rights to and has registered as such to himself.

“Leadership as a matter of “future consequential effects” direct not for any member of the party to associate with him and his political chicanery. Leadership recognizes that, we are not in normal times and as such this notice is carefully and cautiously served to correct the many unhealthy agenda, ill conceived, ill motivated and flagrant abuse of the party’s systems.
