COMMERCIAL drivers have been urged to avoid overspeeding to help prevent fatal accidents on the road.

Mr Robert Sarbah, the Greater Accra Regional vice-chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), gave the advice at the swearing into office of the Achimota-Haatso-Kwashieman branch of the union in Accra.

Mr Kofi Hammond was elected as chairman, Mr Ernest Akwetey, vice-chairman and Mr Lawrence Koblah, secretary.

Mr Jonathan Ezeh and Mr Erasmus Mensah were elected first and second trustees respectively.

Mr Sarbah asked the drivers to be courteous to passengers in order to win their support and co-operation.

For his part, Mr Hammond, the Achimota-Haatso-Kwashieman branch chairman, thanked the Greater Accra Regional secretariat for the orderly conduct of the elections.

He promised to step up educational programmes for the members on road safety measures.
