Mahama Is Still a National Security Risk

Feature Article Mahama Is Still a National Security Risk
MAY 31, 2020 LISTEN

He said that he will never accept that he peddled falsehood, when the Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwame Baffoe – alias Abronye DC – contended on a radio talk-show that some key operatives of the country’s main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were planning to strategically assassinate some leaders of the New Patriotic Party in the leadup to the 2020 General Election (See “Abronye DC Speaks after CID Invitation, Makes Three Counter Accusations” PeaceFM.com / Ghanaweb.com 5/25/20). The obvious presumption here, of course, is that Mr. Baffoe still stands by his accusation that Candidate Mahama, the former President, has, in fact, either conspired with or contracted some goons among the ranks of the National Democratic Congress to liquidate the Bono NPP Regional Chairman, among several others, as one of the salient winning strategies by Candidate Mahama going into Election 2020.

Well, for our part, we know for a fact that Ghana’s authoritative media-mogul sleuth, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the fire-spitting Assin-Central Member of Parliament, from the Central Region, has also made the exact same allegation in an even more credible and comprehensive manner, because Mr. Agyapong also clearly stated the location, the day and time and the venue where such assassination plot had been hatched. As usual, the named suspects have vehemently and publicly denied that any such plot has been hatched; and at least one such prominent suspect, as of this writing, was widely reported to have launched a lawsuit in which the Assin-Central NPP-MP, who is also the proprietor of the KenCity Media Network and owner of the Net-2 Television Channel, is named as the primary respondent.

The aforesaid denial reeks of the patently pedestrian because Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, who is currently standing trial for seditious activities, continues to vehemently deny his involvement in any such felonious activities, although government prosecutors and the police say that they are in possession of substantial incriminating evidence directly linking the former Mahama-appointed Minister for Local Government and Rural Development to such politically motivated criminal activities. Mr. Baffoe is also reported to have made his damning allegation on one of the several radio stations and/or television stations owned by Mr. Agyapong. Mr. Baffoe, in turn, has also reportedly asked officials at the CID Headquarters who invited him for questioning on the say-so of the former President, acting through the latter’s lawyer, Mr. Anthony “Tony” Lithur, to invite the now-Candidate John Dramani Mahama for questioning, because Mr. Baffoe is insistent that his allegations against the former President has unimpeachable credibility and validity.

What is rather curious about all this is the strenuous attempt being made by Mr. Lithur, the Mahama lawyer, to cavalierly discount Mr. Baffoe’s public assertion that the then-Vice-President John Mahama may very well be complicit in the apparent foul play surrounding the “mysterious” death of President John Evans Atta-Mills. No matter how or which way one looks at the clearly murky circumstances surrounding the death of the retired tax-law professor of the University of Ghana’s Faculty of Law, the general Ghanaian public has an inalienable right to know the fact of whether the then-Vice-President Mahama, for only one striking example, demanded to be promptly furnished with an officially issued autopsy report from the pathologist or medical examiner in the wake of the death of his then-immediate boss before proceeding to formally announce the death of the then-President John Evans Atta-Mills to the rest of the country and the global community at large.

In recent weeks, and in the wake of the very public allegation made by Abronye DC, as the Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party is popularly known, the former President has appeared in public once to make the following terse and rather curious as well as inescapably flabbergasting and downright suspicious statement: “I did not kill President Mills.” Mr. Mahama, however, did not tell the nation precisely who, in fact, did kill President John Evans Atta-Mills. And even more significantly, the fact of whether the then-Second Most Powerful Politician in Ghana at the time was in any way aware of who might have killed or caused the then substantive President of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Ghana to be killed, and also what might have been the motive behind such bloody decision, since it was quite evident and obvious, per his own recent public testimony, that Little Dramani was the greatest beneficiary of the professional vacancy left in the wake of the “mysterious” death of his former boss.
