Maxwell Konadu And Kotoko Players Open To Pay Cut Idea To Help COVID-19 Fight

The head coach for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Maxwell Konadu has revealed that there has been a discussion with senior players of the team over a pay cut idea and they are all willing to chart that path to help in the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

What has been described as a global pandemic has not spared Ghana but has led to the suspension of the 2019/2020 football season.

In the midst of the challenges presented to clubs financially, there have been proposals of a pay cut as a way players can help support their teams and thereby help in the fight against the COVID-19.

That conversation was met by mixed reactions with some players and coaches opposing the idea while others remained open to accept any decision their club will take.

Waving into the matter, Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu says he and his players are ready to take the pay cut to help the Coronavirus fight.

“With the issue of taking a pay cut in the midst of the COVID-19, it is something we have been discussing for a while now. We have discussed it will the senior players and we think it will be good for us to also help because we don’t know where all this is going to end”, the gaffer said in a video posted on the YouTube page of Kotoko.

He added, “There are a lot of people helping out. So why don’t we also sacrifice part of our salaries in the fight against the COVID-19. It is good if they [management of the club] slash our salaries to help the COVID-19 fight. It will show we support the management and so we agree on that”.
