Kumasi Asante Kotoko has booked a place in the money zone (Group Stage) of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup competition following a 5-3 aggregate win over Cameroonian side Cotton Sport De Garoua.

The Porcupine Warriors today defeated the Cameroonian side by two goals to one in the second leg encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The win ensured that Kotoko did the double over their opponent having won the first leg in Cameroon by three goals to two.

The Ghanaian club dominated with some sleek passing topped with possessive football. Emmanuel Gyamfi and Maxwell Baako clearly the two Kotoko players who were outstanding on the day as they treated fans to some entertaining football.

Two goals, one each from Amos Frimpong who converted a penalty kick as well as Maxwell Baakoh’s second half goal helped cement the victory for the victors. Coton Sport attacker Oumarou Sali got the consolation goal for the losers after capitalizing on a loose marking inside the Kotoko penalty bot to strike into the bottom corner of the left post.

The Kumasi based side’s triumph at this stage of the competition sees them making it to the group stage for the first time in a decade. It is an achievement that management and the whole Kotoko family can be proud of as they savor the feat.

Coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor and his players now await the draw for the group stage to know their opponent. For now they are expected to continue preparations for their next challenge.
