Ghana’s Top Seven Rated Amateur Boxers

The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) has come out with its star performers over the past 8 years and for many experts of the game, they should be ripe for medals in any major competition with fair officiating.

The seven selected experienced amateur boxers in Ghana presently are:

Suleimana Tetteh (52kg) - Africa zone 1 2011 (Gold), ECOWAS Games 2012 (Gold), Olympic Games 2012 (Athlete), Africa Championship 2015 (Silver), Commonwealth Games 2018 (Quarter Finalist). He is the skipper of the Black Bombers.

Umar Abdul Wahid (60kg) - Commonwealth Games 2014 (Bronze), African Games 2015 & 2016 (Athlete), African Olympic Qualifier (Bronze), Olympic Games 2016 (Athlete).

Lartey Jessie Lartey (64kg) - Africa zone 1 2011(Gold), ECOWAS Games 2012 (Gold), Commonwealth Games 2014 (Quarter Finalist) Commonwealth Games 2018 (Bronze). He was named SWAG Amateur Boxer of the year and also won the 2018 Hallmark Sports Excellence Award as Best Amateur Boxer.

Musa Lawson Rahman (75kg) - ECOWAS Games 2012 (Gold), African Championship 2015 (Bronze), All African Games. Olympic Qualifier.

Mohammed Azumah (69kg) - Africa Zone 1 (Gold), Africa Olympic Qualifier (Bronze), Commonwealth Games 2014 (Quarter Finalist).

Ampiah Akimos Annang (49kg) -African Games 2015 (Bronze), All African Games / Olympic Games 2016 Qualifier (Quarter Finalist).

Samuel Yaw Addo (56kg) - Commonwealth Games 2018 (Quarter Finalist).

· The selection was based on their participation in international games and number of medals won.

· International Boxing Instructor, Ofori Asare is the head coach of the team, assisted by Akai Nettey and Lartekwei Lartey.

· George Lamptey is president of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
