Former Ghanaian international, Nii Odartey Lamptey has expressed his belief that current Black Stars players are capable of clinching the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The four-time African champions are seeking to break the 37 years trophy-less jinx.

The country has come close of winnng the ultimate in 1992, 2010 and 2015 respectively but has consistently lacked the mental toughness.

Ahead of this year's tournament, Kwesi Appiah and his playing body have been charged to end Ghana's trophy drought.

However, the former FIFA U-17 World Cup winner believes the current player can win the ultimate.

"Kwesi Appiah has been doing well and I am really impressed," he told Asempa FM.

"I think the major ultimate for him is to win the Africa Cup of Nations and I believe every Ghanaian is expecting to see the trophy this year.

"His backroom staff has been very helpful and I believe they can win the trophy.

"The current crop of players can win the trophy because everything is possible in football.

"If these players are in top shape, they can do everything.

The former Aston Villa star also cautioned the players not to focus on money ahead of the tournament.

"Money has been the reason why the team has not been able to win the trophy over the years but going forward, I will urge the players not to focus on the money.

"Money is important in everything we do but if they win the ultimate, they will be surprised that the president will surprise them," he added.

CAF is yet to name a host for the tournament after Cameroon lost it hosting right.
