Asec confirms participation in Otumfuo Tourney

Accra, Oct. 11, GNA - Asec Mimosa, Ivorien soccer giants and former African Clubs Champions have confirmed their participation in the maiden Otumfuo Invitational Soccer Tourney, slated for Kumasi from November 30 to December 5.

The confirmation came via a letter sent to Manhyia Palace, the royal abode of the Asantehene by the Ivorien club, expressing gratitude and appreciation to Otumfuo, Osei Tutu II for inviting Asec to participate in the soccer fiesta.

A release from Phonix Consult, organisers of the competition, signed by Mr Edward Yigah, Chief Executive Officer stated that "the entire playing body and the huge family of Asec fans are excited about the idea of playing some of Africa's foremost clubs on one stage." Other teams lined up for the contest are Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, King Faisal, Ashantigold and Enyimba of Aba, two time African champions.

Meanwhile, the release said, corporate interest the organisation had increased tremendously with EKOFA Trading Enterprise, Peace FM, Fox FM and Pipe Media joining the sponsorship wagon.

Already on line to support the soccer carnival are DHL, Fraga Oil, and London based OBE- TV, which has undertaken to transmit the matches live across Africa and Europe.

The release said the organisers intend to use the tournament to build quality and mutually beneficial corporate and media partnerships to cement the internationalisation of Ghanaian brand of football in celebration of Ghana's historic maiden qualification to the 2006 World Cup.
