Pupils honoured for performance at Milo Marathon

Nkoranza (B/A) Sept 29, GNA - The Nkoranza District Directorate of Education in conjunction with the District Assembly and the Traditional Council, have organised a cocktail party for four pupils of the District for their encouraging performance at the recent Juvenile Division of the National Milo Marathon Race in Accra. The four pupils chalked between the third and 12th positions among the 2000 contestants who competed in the 14.5 kilometres race. Master Kwabena Effah, a class six pupil of Bonsu Methodist Primary School placed third in the U-15 Boys race while Miss Eva Amankwaa also a class six pupil of Manso Methodist Primary School placed fifth in the U-15 Girls division.

Kumbatezie Amina and Kundelik Anima both of Timiabu Local Primary School, placed sixth and 11th respectively. They were presented with Milo bags, sachets of the beverage and cash prizes after the competition in Accra. Master Effah received one million cedis, Eva had 200,000 cedis, Kumbatezie, 200,000 cedis and Kundelik 100,000 cedis. Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, the District Director of Education commended the pupils for their "excellent performance", saying the joy they had brought was not only to the District but for the entire people of the Brong Ahafo Region as well. He announced that the Directorate was arranging to enrol the pupils in schools at Nkoranza so that they are given the necessary attention and training to improve on their performance and talents.

The District Director called on non-resident citizens of Nkoranza to offer financial support for the pupils to enhance their education and to enable them "to bring more glories to the District". He commended Mr. Samuel Odame Bosompem, the District Sports Organizer for his efforts in training the pupils to obtain such good positions at the marathon.

Mr. Agyemang-Badu promised to present a set of band instruments to the schools of the four pupils. Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive commended the District Directorate of Education for their efforts in bringing a remarkable improvement in education in the District. The DCE called on teachers in the District to redouble their efforts and to assist the Directorate to perform satisfactorily to the expectation of parents and guardians. He gave the assurance that the District Assembly would support the four pupils to improve their academic performance as well as their sporting talents. Okatakyie Agyemang-Kudom IV, Omanhene of Nkoranza commended all those who in diverse ways contributed to promoting discipline among teachers, students and pupils. On behalf of the Traditional Council he promised to reward the pupils for their splendid performance. Present at the ceremony were Nana Okofo Agyapong III, Adontehene, Nana Ofori Amisare Okofo VII, Akwamuhene, Nana Febiri I Amanfi, Baafihene and Nana Akrapin Baffoe, Gyaasehene. 29 Sept 05
