Liberty Thrash Hotspur
Accra, Sept 11, GNA - Liberty Professionals on Sunday deepened the relegation blues of Kade Hotspurs with a 4-0 drubbing at the Dansoman Park in Accra to push the visitors to the bottom of the 16-team Premier League table.
A goal scored in the first half and three more in the second half by Liberty ensured that the premiership debutants' journey for survival took a disappointing backward step.
Playing at the adopted Dansoman Park, the "Scientific Soccer Lads" sold out an unimpressive duel but managed to pick the maximum three points to ensure their desire of picking a slot among the first four positions did not tremble during the season.
Enjoying an appreciable home support, Liberty created few chances in the opening half but had to wait until the 35th minute mark before the winner of the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Alexander Aryee notched home the lead.
On a day that telepathic understanding proved elusive for the Hotspurs rear, the creative Aryee capitalized on lousy marking and for once got past inspiring goalkeeper, Mustapha Bampoe with a grounder that left him with the unpleasant duty of retrieving the ball from the net. The visitors presented a false hope of pulling even when they restarted the second half but Liberty's Kotei Blankson rose to duty by retreating well to dive to his elastic limit to deny skipper Amui Quaye of Hotspurs from pulling even.
Stanley Afedzie consolidated Liberty's lead only five minutes into the concluding half when his shot deflected of a Hotspurs defender to beat keeper Bampoe.
At a time Hotspurs seemed to have settled well with an improved play, Liberty snatched the third goal through skilful Kofi Nti Boakye when the petit player scored from a rebound. Liberty's coach, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio in search of more goals replaced the final fourth goal scorer, Felix Baffoe with Kwame Obeng Darko to ensure that all three points stayed in their kitty.
