Two tennis players will join the Ghana contingent for the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games slated for July 19-23, 2017 in the Bahamas.

Over 1000 young boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18 will compete in seven events for the 6th Commonwealth Youth Games.

According to Isaac Aboagye Duah, President of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), they decided on Emmanuel Plange, 17 and Naa MacKorley, 14 to represent the nation at the Games which is meant for budding young teenage athletes.

He said the two were picked based on performance, potential, desire and age. The Tennis President hinted that they would be handled by coach Noah Bagerbaseh.

“We had no options than to choose these players, for them to go out there and learn to improve and get the exposure of international competition and a feel of competing with colleagues from different nations.

He noted that the recent McDan Open has exposed the players to many things in Tennis and wished there are regular tournaments to put the local players in shape at all times.

Mr.Duah who is a board member of the new Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) headed by Ben Nunoo Mensah said he foresees a bright future for the youth of Ghana after the Director of OlympAfrica, Monsieur Alassane Diack visited Ghana to see the land proposed for a sports complex for kids at Amasaman.

He said Ghana needs more sports facilities to beautify the landscape and also serve as training grounds for the children.

He commended the GOC president at his efforts to see to a beneficial use of the Amasaman site.
