Ghana international Majeed Waris has praised compatriot Christian Atsu after the winger scored to secure Premier League promotion for NewCastle United

Waris, who is fighting to escape relegation with Lorient in the French topflight, is happy for Atsu as the Magpies returned to the English topflight following victory against Preston North End.

Waris took to twitter to congratulate Atsu: ''Congrats for the promotion and your goal as well @ChristianAtsu20 .ur name will be remembered in the history book of Newcastle.''

The winger scored the decisive goal, fourth of the campaign, as Newcastle recorded a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Preston North End on Monday night to earn automatic qualification.

The Magpies opened the scoring in the 7th minute through young Spanish forward Ayoze Perez when he tucked in Aleksandar Mitrovich's corner.

But moments after Aleksandar Mitrovich cried, albeit weakly, for a penalty, Preston went straight down the other end and Jordan Hugill flicked Tom Barkhuizen's cross from the far left corner of the net to restore parity in the 14th minute.

On the 45th minute mark, Atsu kept his composure to slot home go restore his side's lead after he was left unmarked. His strike empowered Benitez's men to score two more goals in the second half.
