Sunyani (B/A) Aug. 24 GNA - Sunyani Ghatel Ladies football team of Ghana Telecom Company on Sunday emerged champions in the first Brong-Ahafo Women's Gala football competition when they walloped Biadan Future Ladies of Berekum District 5-0 in the final match at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The eight-a-side competition, organized by the newly formed Brong-Ahafo Regional Women's Football Association was to prepare the 13 registered women's football clubs towards the forthcoming Regional Women's league.

Despite the heavy loss, the Biadan Ladies were not totally humiliated as they had earlier won two of their matches in the elimination series when they beat Kintampo Midland Ladies 1-0 and Nsuta-Techiman Confidence Ladies 2-1.

Despite parading their second-string team that included Vivian Apraku, Constance Danquah, Aye Shettu and Priscilla Annor, the experienced GHATEL Ladies proved a better side.

Goalkeeper Vivian Aprakuwaah of Biadan could not withstand the onslaught launched by the slippery attackers of GHATEL Ladies led by Priscilla Annor.

GHATEL Ladies earlier kicked out Midland 5-4 on penalties after tying one-all in regulation time and followed up to defeat Techiman Liberty Ladies 3-1 while Sunyani Panest Academy beat Nsuta-Techiman Confidence Ladies 3-1 on penalty kicks after a goalless drawn game.

Meanwhile Abirikasu Ladies, Atuna Victory Ladies, Japekrom Abayoyo Ladies all in the Jaman District, Aduana Ladies from the Dormaa District and Sunyani Golden Ladies could not take part in the special gala competition due to financial problems, an official of the Regional Association told the GNA Sports.

Madam Afua Aboraa, Chairperson of the Association presented the championship Cup to Cynthia Adobea, captain of GHATEL Ladies. She assured the participating clubs that the Association was doing everything possible to ensure that the Region produced stars to represent it at national and international competitions. Present at the ceremony was Nana Kofi Ameyaw, Gyasehene of Biadan in the Berekum Traditional Area and a founding member of Future Ladies Football Club. 24 Aug. 04
