Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has joined Championship side Barnsley from Arsenal.

The 22-year-old told Arsene Wenger he wants to leave Arsenal before the close of the transfer window – because of a lack of game time.

His wish has been granted as he has now completed his move to the Tykes, which lasts six months.Frimpong came through Arsenal's academy and broke into the first team early in the 2011/12 season.

Frimpong will be best remembered among Arsenal for his antics on social media, which have caused controversy in recent months. He suffered the second cruciate ligament injury of his career while on loan at Wolves in February 2012 and has also had loan spells at Fulham, Charlton and Wolves in the last two years.

Frimpong won his first full cap for Ghana in the World Cup qualifier against Sudan in March 2013.
