The spirited works of Metro TV has caught the attention of the organisers of the National Sports Awards once again, leaving the organisers no choice, but to confer on them the Best TV Station at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra, last Saturday.

Last Saturday's award makes it their third successive memento as the Best Sports TV Station, making them the only TV station to win the title three years running.

For their excellent sports programs, they received a plaque, a DSTV decoder, a TV set and a refrigerator. That notwithstanding, Mr. Fadi Fattal, Chief Executive Officer of Optimum Media Prime (OMP), has said they were putting effective structures in place, to safeguard the enviable feat.

“We are not going to relent on our efforts, we will throw in much, and make sure we win it years unending,” said Mr. Fattal.

Kumasi's Angel FM Joe Laka emerged as the radio presenter of the year for the flagship award, while Kessben FM emerged as the sports radio station of the year.

It was Christopher Opoku, (Asempa FM), formerly of Metro TV, who won the Best TV Commentator Award, while Radio Gold's Nana Darkwah Gyasi won the radio English version.

The Best English Radio Commentator Award went to Michael Oti Adjei, with the most promising award going to GTV's Henry Asante.

The sports paper of the year award went to Graphic Sports, with Dan Kweku Yeboah, of Peace FM, winning the best radio commentator (Twi).

Kotoko Express' Pot won the cartoonist of year, with Coach Isaac Opeele Boateng winning the columnist of the year award.

Some special awards were presented to the Editor of the All Sports newspaper, the producer of Sports Highlights, Mr. George Lomotey, as well as boxing legend Azumah Nelson, for their contributions to sports in the country and beyond. The 2-hour program was interspersed with music, featuring up and coming Hip-life trio, Dunsin, and high-life star, Ofori Amponsah. The Deputy US Ambassador, Sue K. Brown, Alhaji Ahmed Bandoh, CEO Bahmed Travel and Tours, among others graced the occasion.
