All Hands On deck — Dr Amoah

Chairman of the CAN 2008 Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr Kofi Amoah, has urged Ghanaians to contribute in their own small ways to complement the efforts of the LOC as the tournament draws near.

He said with almost six months to the competition, Ghanaians could not afford to waste any more time in addressing pertinent issues like training pitches, access roads, security, sanitation, and others.

Dr Amoah told the Daily Graphic on his return from a one-week conference in London with a four-man LOC delegation, that sanitation, for instance, was one area every Ghanaian had to get involved in to ensure a clean environment before and after CAN 2008.

“Those of us in the LOC are doing everything we can to make things work and we expect all Ghanaians to get on board with their little contributions,” he insisted.

He said having successfully chosen the tournament song and poem last Saturday, the LOC would soon launch the CAN 2008 roadshow aimed at relating with municipal authorities and sensitising the people to the tournament.

According to him, the trip to London, which saw them touring the new Wembley Stadium, helped them to gain knowledge in stadium and arena management.

“After building new stadia in the country, we need to manage them well after the CAN 2008 tournament so they don't become an albatross,” Dr Amoah said.
