French footballer Paul Pogba has reacted after being handed a four-year ban for doping, noting it has effectively ended his playing career.

The Juventus and France midfielder released an official statement confirming he had been informed of the Tribunale Nazionale Antidoping's decision to suspend him for four years.

"I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me," Pogba said.

The 29-year-old tested positive for a prohibited substance, according to Italy's national anti-doping authority. As a result, he will be banned until August 2027.

Pogba denied intentionally or unintentionally doping, insisting: "I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations."

The four-year suspension is the maximum penalty under World Anti-Doping Agency rules.

It will keep Pogba sidelined until he is 34, casting doubt over whether he can resume his playing career.
