Ghana’s Joseph Attamah Lawerh converted a penalty kick on Thursday evening to help his Fatih Karagümrük side defeat Adana Demirspor in order to secure promotion to the Turkish Super Lig.

The two clubs have been impressive in the second tier of Turkish football throughout the 2019/2020 football season.

In a fiercely contested match this evening, both teams played above themselves looking for the victory that will earn them the ticket to play in the Turkish Super Lig next season.

The first half of the encounter ended with Fatih Karagümrük in the lead courtesy a 40th-minute equalizer from Cagri Ortakaya.

The opponent, Adana Demirspor returned from the break to equalize on the 68th minute through Pa Amat Dibba to force the game into extra time.

With no goals after the 30 minutes, it all came down to the penalty shootout. Ghana international Joseph Attamah Lawerh displayed cool head to convert his penalty kick to help Fatih Karagümrük emerge as 6-5 winners.

The team has now qualified to play in the Turkish Super Lig next season as a reward for their hard work throughout the season.

With Joseph Attamah Lawerh playing on loan from İstanbul Başakşehir, he will be expected to return to his parent club.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Fatih Karagümrük has been impressed with his outstanding performance since joining and will try to secure his services on a permanent basis this summer.
