Ghana Spends 374 Million Annually To Import Chicken
15.10.2019 LISTEN

Ghana imports 300, 000 metric tonnes of chicken annually. This translates into five million chicken production weekly. This quantum is about 374 million dollars spent on the importation of chicken annually.

This revelation was made by Chief Executive Officer of Pals Africa, Mr. Adusei Bawuah who laments that even half of that amount could do a lot for the poultry and livestock farmers in Ghana should they be given the assistance.

In an interview about the upcoming Pals Africa exhibition with ModernGhana Mr. Adusei Bawuah noted that there is a lot of potentials in the Ghanaian poultry farming industry that needs a lot of assistance from successive governments to ensure maximum productivity to feed Ghana.

The Pals Africa CEO who is passionate about the growth of poultry farming and its value chain in Ghana, said Ghanaians stand to lose more if its own poultry farmers and associated businesses are not given the necessary support.

“When we produce broilers here, we feed them with nutritious feed and make sure whoever consumes it has no effect because we also eat our chicken and eggs unlike someone producing from another country for you to consume”.

According to him, Pals Africa is doing everything possible to help the poultry industry and its value chain to expand by connecting as many farmers as possible to other businesses for mutual gains.

That is one of the reasons he noted, that underpin the organization of the Pals Africa annual trades and exhibition.

This year’s exhibition is slated for November 4th and 5th, and is a build upon the previous years’.

Investors from Morocco, Nigeria and other parts of Africa will be joining their Ghanaian counterparts this year for a great exhibition.

They will be showcasing agricultural products, new agriculture machinery, agricultural investors, livestock and poultry farmers and many more related products in the livestock sector along with its sub-sectors of poultry and dairying that have created employment for thousands of people over the years.

It is themed “Enhancing the Agricultural Value Chain toward an Aid Free Ghana – the Role of the Poultry and Livestock Sector”.
