Mr Bryan Acheampong, Minister of State in Charge of National Security, has said under the Government's Free Senior High School and other educational interventions, Ghanaians had no excuse for not securing the future of its children.

He therefore called on the citizenry to take advantage of the initiatives to 'properly position themselves in society.'

Mr Acheampong said this at the maiden Speech and Prize Giving Day of Gadza Basic School, a 72 year old school in the Kpando Municipality, where he donated GHC 15,000 as seed money for an Akpokli Education and Career Fund lunched at the event.

The Minister said parents in particular must support the Free SHS policy in view of the role education played in the development of the individual and society as a whole.

He pledged to construct a six unit classroom block for the school in memory of an in-law, Robert Gbenge who hailed from Kpando.

Mr Kojo Addae-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of Databank who launched the Fund, called on parents to consider education as the greatest inheritance they could pass on to their children, and stressed on the importance of funding basic education.

Togbui Kodzoga V, Chief of Kpando Gadza who initiated the Fund, said it was conceived to help ease the educational burden on parents in the area and to support the career aspirations of the people.

The Speech and Prize Day was on the theme 'Education; the means of developing responsible and accountable future leaders.'

Mr Kudzo Agbale, Headmaster of the School said enrolment had dipped significantly over the years due to the unavailability of toilet and other facilities including a library.

He said the structure of the decades-old school building had weakened, with no space for teaching staff, whiles the school recorded a shortage of textbooks.

A six unit classroom block and a canteen jointly constructed by Togbui Kodzoga and Emu, a Non-Governmental Organisation was commissioned to mark the event, whiles Union Ghana, an association of professionals promised to support with toilets and other facilities.
