By Bright Dzakah

Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains and Deputy Ranking on Finance Alex Adomako Mensah is not happy about what he described as ‘doom economy’ perception propagated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the heat of the 2016 campaign, saying it was a wrong signals sent to the investor community in attempt to paint the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama led government black in order to score a political point. He therefore called on the present administration to as a matter of urgency clear such perceptions.

Sekyere Afram Plains Legislator while contributing on Onua Fm morning show ‘Yen Nsem Pa’ hosted by Bright Kwesi Asempa said “They (NPP) through their pronouncements during the 2016 campaign, said a lot of bad things about our economy, sending wrong signals to our investors out there. It is time they find way to reverse that. They have to clear those perceptions, and we are waiting to see how they will do that”

The Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamoud Bawumia while on the campaign trail last year said Ghana’s economy was deformed rather than transformed as being propagated by the then NDC administration. According to him the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has delivered the worst economic performance in the history of the country.

In another instance, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at a public lecture at the National Theatre said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite having more resources than any government ever in the history of Ghana has been wasteful, adding that data on Ghana’s economy shows that the years under President John Mahama have been worse than any period since the dawn of this century.

These and many other statements that the Member of Sekyere Afram Plains cited and considered as wrong signals which were sent to investors abroad by the NPP in opposition and now in government must work to clear such perceptions. He opined that “When you are in opposition and kept saying all kinds of things about the economy, now that you are in power, you must as well find way to reverse that. It is now time they present the true picture to the world to tell them our economy was not bad after all”
