Where Are The Cholera Vaccines?

Feature Article Where Are The Cholera Vaccines?
JUN 12, 2015 LISTEN

The Government, Deputy Minister of Health, Victor Bampoe, Dr Badu Sarkodie, Director of Public Health, GHS....Where are the "Cholera vaccines" called SHANKOL and DUKORAL????

Ghanaians dont have short memories so the earlier you bring the cholera vaccines .. the better for us all.......

I am always sad why Ghanaians are perceived to be having "short memories"..... but it is somehow TRUE.

Our leaders always talk and make promises without fulfilling them but we failed as Ghanaians to hold them responsible for their words.

When one issue comes.... every Ghanaian will be talking about it ..... within a short period we forget the issue, it becomes old news and we all forward our noise and voices on a different issue arising , without visiting the previous issue whether it is intervened or not.....

Reminder:
We all know how cholera has been so deadly to Mother Ghana.

It kills hundreds of Ghanaians at most every 2 years.

We all witnessed the worst ever outbreak in 2014 which is still not over.... We are on 11th June 2015 and Adabraka Polyclinic has confirmed a cholera case related to the recent disaster (flooding kum fire outbreak) in Accra particularly circle....the patient is a survivor of the sad incident....

As if I am prophet of doom as I suggested proactively to some high authorities to embark on a massive cholera campaign in Accra just yesterday (10th June,2015).

My question is, why cant we Ghanaians especially our leaders be proactive?

They always wait for the poison before looking for antidote....

The best they always offer is to talk and later dump their own words.

Reference:
On 3rd September 2014, Deputy Minister of Health, Victor Bampoe- "we have discussed with WHO to do a rapid assessment to see whether we can use cholera vaccine to break the back of this epidemic. What we are thinking of now is that because the outbreak has not spread to the northern regions, we can use the vaccine to create barrier or use it in areas which have reported high cases in order to vaccinate people"

On 19th November, 2014, Dr Badu Sarkodie, Director of Public Health, Ghana Health Service, finally confirmed the coming of these 2 cholera vaccines during a workshop on these vaccines.

He further stated that the vaccines are effective up to 5 years , but my study indicates otherwise (the cholera vaccine is 85% effective for the 1st 6 months, 50%-60% effective for first year and less than 50% effective after 2 years... meaning after 3 to 4 years the effectiveness will be in doubt)

These cholera vaccines were approved by World Health Organization in 2011, yet Ghanaians have been dying of cholera in 2011, 2012 so as 2014 and our leaders have failed to bring these vaccines to Ghana to save lives.

The best they could do is to just "TALK" and give "PROMISES".....

Where are the SHANKOL and DUKORAL you promised to bring to Ghana ?

Where are the Cholera vaccines ?
How many Ghanaians do we expect to die of Cholera before we bring the vaccines?

Our Journalists, I plea you all to follow this cholera vaccines promise.

Cholera vaccines are much important than EBOLA vaccines in Ghana.
