The Poor Seating Arrangements Of Passenger 207 Cars In Ghana: Who Is Responsible??

The Poor Seating Arrangements Of Passenger 207 Cars In Ghana: Who Is Responsible??
09.05.2015 LISTEN

The security or safety of Ghanaians and for that matter passenger who travel in our domestic vehicles looks as if nobody cares. I do not want to talk about the police, because we are aware they have been topping the chart as the most corrupt institution in Ghana.

My major concern in this piece has to do particularly with the almost space- less seating arrangements that domestic vehicle popularly called 207 has. In fact, it becomes so frustrating when a 207 can be arranged to take about 40 passengers, even sometimes 45 passengers. In a typical 207, about six different rows of seat with each row taking 4 passengers.

What is more is that you (passenger) rarely have any space to even turn yourself when you are tired. And the worry is these cars travel long journeys, sometimes intra- districts and even intra regions in Ghana.

No wonder when an accident occurs, most passengers on board loss their lives. It is because the passengers are packed like “sardines”, and if there is an accident, there is almost no chance to save any.

The big question is, Driving and Vehicle Licensing Authority ( DVLA) as well as the MTTU of the Ghana Police Service have all accented to this inhumane nature in which Ghanaian passengers have been made to endure to the detriment of their dear lives.

I am urgently pleading with the authorities concerned; individuals and government to as a matter of urgency take this up and make sure the situation is corrected. I suggest at most five rows with each taken at most 4 passengers so that Ghanaian passengers would also be safe.

God bless our homeland Ghana and help us to build it well so we all live it successfully.
