Tema, Aug 21, GNA - The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has provided the Tema Railways/Ports Police Station with modern facilities at the total cost of 385,769 million cedis to enable the police to work efficiently.

They include a set of computer and accessories and an air conditioner. The GPHA also renovated a building belonging to the Police. Speaking at the handing over of the facilities to the police on Saturday at Tema, Mr Gordon Anim, Director of Tema Port, said the assistance was to motivate the police to provide adequate security to Port.

He said following the September 11th 2001 attacks on the United States, the Port had in compliance with the International Ship and Ports Security (ISPS) code tightened its security network.

Mr Anim urged the police to collaborate efforts with security personnel at the Port to ensure maximum protection to life and property. Chief Superintendent of Police Daniel Odai, Tema Deputy Regional Commander of Police, noted that crime has assumed sophisticated dimensions making modern crime fighting difficult and expensive. He, therefore, appealed to public to assist the security agencies to maintain law and order.

Superintendent of Police Victor Adetor, District Commander of Tema Railways/Ports Police, appealed to his colleagues to avoid negative practices that could tarnish the image of the police.
