The Foundation for Youth,Peace and Development (FYPD) is happy to be part of this important programme.Indeed Ghana's effort at development can only be successful if there are healthy people to work for the Nation. It is therefore of much concern to us that the Nation is presently strongly challenged by rising cases of cholera and threats of Ebola, a disease that has the potential of wiping out the entire population of the West African Sub-Region.

There is no doubt that the youth who are the most active segment of the population are at a higher risk of contracting these and other diseases like HIV/AIDS. It is also the case that given the fact that they form the bulk of the Nations population, any well meaning health campaign must start with them.

It is for these reasons that we decided to partner with the National Youth Authority, Adentan Municipal secretariat, to hold a talk on the above named diseases and a clean up exercise, to rid communities in the municipality of filth, the main cause of the much talked about cholera that has severely plagued the Nation lately.

We will like to use this opportunity to express our concern about the declining interest of Ghanaians, especially the youth in communal work which not too long ago, proved to be a very reliable way of addressing the problems of our communities. The FYPD is convinced that the high level of insanitary conditions in our communities and the consequent outbreak of cholera in the country can be blamed on this problem of declining interest in communal work.

Perhaps,we as a people have become too particular about our individual wellbeing and are therefore increasingly neglecting those activities that will make our communities a good place for us to live.We must remember however, that we risk loosing what we have as individuals if all is not well with the communities in which we live at large.

We therefore wish to call on the youth to show interest in matters that pertain to the various communities, for the good of themselves and all Ghanaians.
