People Who Should Just Stop Music: #10 – C Zar

People Who Should Just Stop Music: 10 – C Zar
25.09.2012 LISTEN

Today I diverge from looking through the fakeness of Diamond Appiah and her Lady Gaga trends to take a critical look at another act who frankly in my most candid and non-malicious view [again] should do the Ghanaian ear and any other by putting a stop to his music career [if he already hasn't]

C Zar's fault unlike Diamond's is not about originality or being a copycat. No!!! If anything C Zar is full of originality – so much of it.

He had his own unique hairstyle
He had his own unique style of rapping which was dominant in all of his songs that come to mind

He had his own style of dressing
And even his own style of pronunciation of the word 'czar'

the funny thing about C Zar is, when he appeared on the musical scene, his songs were widely accepted [call it the Ghanaian hospitality] and enjoyed massive airplay. 'Mercy Lokko' and “Araba Lawson' trademarks of his soon became jargons to everybody. His famous lyrics;

Fly, fly oh fly
This girl go make you cry

among others are still not forgotten [call that timeless music]. Or so I believe.

So where did he go wrong? [Or rather 'when'].
Here goes; at the time C Zar was enjoying such massive popularity, I believe the real rappers, modern day stars like Sarkodie in the 'Kasahari' industry were still 'free-styling' on Adom FM. So when Ghanaians finally got exposed to these true lyricists, they realised that C Zar had not been doing anything apart from throwing nursery rhymes to a well manufactured instrumental and relying on the voice of Ofori Amponsah to catapult himself,

Since then his career as a musician took a pause and the last I read of him he was Azonto Pandemic featuring Praye

I hear this was an attempt to revamp his career and I sincerely hope this revamp includes him 'upping' his rap style to be in conformance with the new standards set by EL and the rest or else he should just stick to what he's doing now [whatever that is] or join Lord Kenya [now evangelist] and Ps. Ofori Amponsah as the backup singer in his church.

C-zar is married to Anita Mantey, a graphic designer and they have a daughter. In his spare time, he loves to watch movies and to swim.
