Anfoega (V/R), Aug 2, GNA -The Chiefs and people of the new North Dayi District have paid tribute to the late President John Attah Mills by undertaking a procession to honour his memory.
The teeming crowd wearing red and black apparel danced to brass band and “borborbor” music and later converged at the District Assembly forecourt, where a book of condolence was signed amidst firing of musketry by the nine paramount chiefs or their representatives in the district.
Reading a tribute on behalf of the people, TogbeTepre Hodo, Paramount Chief of AnfoegaTratditional Area said Professor Mills was a father, teacher, mentor and friend whose untimely death continued to resonate deep sorrow, pain and shock throughout the country and beyond.
He said the quiet and unassuming demeanour was an asset, which many misconstrued to be a weakness.
TogbeTepre Hodo said late President Mills would be remembered as a man of strong conviction, who was dedicated to turning the fortunes of the country around in the direction of peace, progress and stability.
He said the recent creation of 46 new districts countrywide including the North Dayi district is ample manifestation of his devotion to duty and to see Ghana as a better place for all.
“As we mourn the prince of peace, let us resolve to eschew all negative tendencies in our body politic by rededicating ourselves to the progress and welfare of our communities,” he added.
TogbeTepre Hodo urged Ghanaians to let his exemplary life and leadership style spur us on to achieve his dream for the country.
He was optimistic the in-coming administration would live up to expectation.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Kpando Municipal Chief Executive, with oversight responsibility on North Dayi district, said Ghanaians needs late President Mills at this material time than ever, adding that, “God knows best.”
He however said the praise singing, which heralded the demise of President Mills should have been sung during his stewardship.
The Chiefs are, TogbeNoagbesenu III of Awate, TogbeSasraku II of Tsrukpe, TogbeTamtia of Botoku, TogbeOsei-Tutu Brempong III, TogbeDraiAdom II of Tsyome-Sabadu, TogbeGazari V of Aveme, TogbeAhotor VI of Tsorxor.
