Kumasi Asante Kotoko have made a payment of $47,000 to former coach Hans Dieter Schmidt, according to GHANAsoccernet.com.
The amount is the first of a series file://ns-ad-westpub/Reading/Sports/Kotoko%20Pay%20$47,000%20To%20Schmidt.doc of payments to be made to the 66-year-old German for his wrongful dismissal in 2005.
FIFA had ruled last month that the Kumasi-based club pay a whopping 99,000 Euros in fines to Schmidt within 30-days or risk getting relegated to Ghana's third tier competition.
It is thus believed the club and representatives of Schmidt have agreed to a payment scheme file://ns-ad-westpub/Reading/Sports/Kotoko%20Pay%20$47,000%20To%20Schmidt.doc after the 30-day ultimatum expired earlier this week.
Kotoko intends making the second tranche of payments which is at this point unspecified by today.
The Porcupine Warriors currently lead the Ghanaian top flight by fifteen points and need just a point from their next five games to secure an unprecedented 22nd league title file://ns-ad-westpub/Reading/Sports/Kotoko%20Pay%20$47,000%20To%20Schmidt.doc . file://ns-ad-westpub/Reading/Sports/Kotoko%20Pay%20$47,000%20To%20Schmidt.doc
