A whooping $1.5 million is needed to complete the construction of the National Museum of Science and Technology in Accra.
According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, Fritz Baffour, the facility whose construction began thirty years ago has been left unattended to due to budgetary constraints.
He made this known at the inauguration of an advocacy group for museums and monuments in Ghana known as the Friends of the National Museum in Accra.
Mr. Baffour who is also the Information Minister, bemoaned the fact that over the past 30 years, the Science and Technology Museum has become a pipe dream because the board only depends on the government's budgetary allocation which is just enough to run its administrative affairs.
He assured that since it has now been given the mandate to source for funds privately, work will soon start on the museum to ensure that it is completed and open to the public.
President of the Pan African Writer's Association, Professor Atukwei Okai, called for the establishment of a cultural fund and the inclusion of a visit to the museum to the school curriculum to keep the youth in touch with their roots.
Somalian Writer, Nurudin Farah, prompted all Africans to see themselves as walking museums and that “Museums are not in four walls”.
