A Ghanaian domiciled in the UK Michael Amoo-Bediako has placed his magnificent boxing gym, Pro SW Gym, at the disposal of the Black Bombers to fine tune their preparations for the London 2012 Olympics.
Amoo-Bediako is currently in the country to finalised arrangements with the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) president, ambassador Ray Quarcoo, and also to seek ways to restore the dwindling fortunes of the sport.
According Bediako, the offer was his contribution towards the dream of making Ghana a worthy ambassador in the forthcoming Olympics.
“I believe Ghana is blessed with great boxing talents, and if the stake holders in the sport follow the structures that ambassador Quarcoo is putting in place, the sport will do better.
“Ghana is blessed with boxing talents than countries like UK, US, Cuba etc , the only difference is that these countries have put structures in place to develop the sport.
“ The situation is not that bad, let’s go back to the drawing board and inculcate into the boxers the basic techniques of amateur boxing. There is a guiding principle in amateur boxing all over the world, it is different from professional boxing.
If the structures are implemented and the stakeholders follow the dream of the president, there would be uniformity at all fronts and it will develop the game,” Amoo-Bediako stated.
Besides the Gym offer, Amoo-Bediako has also presented boxing equipment worth thousands of pounds sterling to the Bombers ahead of the Olympics.
The items included trunks, shirts, head gears, gloves, canvases, and towels.
Ambassador Quarcoo thanked the donor for the gesture and promised to put them to good use.
Meanwhile, the GABF is currently hosting the triangular boxing fiesta dubbed the President’s Cup) involving Benin, Gabon and Ghana at the Accra Stadium.
