An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa has sentenced a head porter to two years imprisonment for threatening death with a knife to wit, “If you do not marry me, I will kill you”.

The accused person, Ebenezer Boadu, who pleaded not guilty was charged with the offence after he was arrested and charged with threatening death under Section 75 of Act 29/60.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector I. A. A Ahor, said the accused person, on October 15, 2009 at Agbogloshie a suburb and within the jurisdiction of this court, threatened the complainant, Akua Owusua, with a knife.

This, the prosecutor said, he did with the intent of putting Akua Owusua into fear of death.

The prosecutor said the complainant, Akua Owusua and the accused person, Ebenezer Boadu were once married with three children. Both live at the Agbogbloshie market.

In 2000, the prosecutor said the complainant delivered their last baby and a year later, the accused person told the complainant that he was no more interested in the marriage and for that matter, he left for Kumasi.

The accused person, Inspector Ahor stated, returned to Accra in 2008 after the complainant had married another man. The accused did not like the idea and threatened that whether she likes it or not he would marry her.

Again, the prosecutor mentioned that on December 15, 2009, at about 3:00 p.m., the complainant was at her selling point when the accused person wielding a knife went there and told her that, “If you do not marry me, I will kill you”.

The complainant took to her heels but the accused chased her. The complainant later made a report to the police. The accused was arrested and during investigation, the knife was retrieved from him.
