Director of Communications for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign, Nana Akomea, has responded to recent remarks by New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy regarding his private meeting with the party's 2028 presidential candidate.
The response follows Dr Kennedy's claim that a one-on-one meeting he held with Dr Bawumia was intended to be confidential but was subsequently made public by individuals close to the former Vice President.
Dr Kennedy also alleged that despite raising concerns about indiscipline within the NPP and perceptions about Dr Bawumia's leadership style, the former Vice President offered little or no response during the 45-minute meeting.
In a social media post on Monday, June 15, Nana Akomea argued that no details of the discussion had entered the public domain until Dr Kennedy himself spoke about the meeting during his interview on Accra-based JoyNews' Newsfile show on Saturday, June 13.
According to him, what circulated online was merely a photograph showing Dr Bawumia, Dr Kennedy and a few others, and not details of their private discussions.
He questioned how the publication of a group photograph could be interpreted as a breach of confidentiality while Dr Kennedy had gone on to disclose aspects of the conversation himself.
The communications director noted that Dr Kennedy publicly recounted issues he discussed with Dr Bawumia, including comments made by his mother-in-law and complaints about the conduct of some party members.
"So here is Dr Kennedy, lamenting that a picture amounted to leakage of a one-on-one meeting. Then in the same breath, goes on to narrate some details of the one-on-one confidential meeting," Akomea stated.
He further suggested that Dr Bawumia's decision not to respond extensively to the issues raised during the meeting may have been prudent.
"On hindsight, it is really good Dr Bawumia offered no comments on the issues told us by Dr Kennedy. Otherwise Dr Bawumia's confidential responses would all have been narrated last Saturday," he added.
