Rabito Clinic, CDA Consult to hold free breast cancer screening for Daily Graphic staff

The Rabito Clinic, in collaboration with the Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult), will host the second free breast cancer screening and education session for female journalists at the Daily Graphic premises on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

The initiative, themed “Female Journalist, Your Story Matters: Don’t Let Breast Cancer Silence You,” aims to promote early detection and empower female journalists to take charge of their health while continuing to tell impactful stories.

Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Executive Director of CDA Consult, said the programme underscores the importance of regular screening in detecting breast cancer at its early and most treatable stages.

“Get in front of the news and get screened for breast cancer,” he urged in an interview with Modern Ghana News. “You must first be healthy to report healthy news. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle reduces the risk of developing this disease and allows female journalists to keep telling the stories that matter.”

Mr. Ameyibor encouraged journalists to move beyond merely covering breast cancer events to actively participating in them. “Don’t only report on breast cancer — take part in the screening,” he said, adding that women with a family history of breast cancer should begin screening earlier and more frequently.

He further announced that Rabito Clinic and CDA Consult will organize similar free screenings at five key media houses throughout October to make participation convenient for journalists. These include:

  • October 3 – ATV Premises

  • October 8 – Daily Graphic

  • October 15 – Ghanaian Times

  • October 22 – Channel One/Citi FM
  • October 29 – Multimedia Group

Alongside the screenings, both institutions will launch social and traditional media campaigns to promote health education and raise awareness of breast cancer nationwide.

Mr. Banguu Delle, Chief Executive Officer of Rabito Clinic, emphasized the vital role of early detection and lifestyle choices in combating breast cancer. He urged women not to allow the disease to silence them.

“Increasing awareness and promoting self-examination will empower women to take control of their lives,” he said. “This collaboration with CDA Consult is our way of giving back to society and empowering female journalists who serve as key advocates for public health education.”

Mr. Delle reaffirmed Rabito Clinic’s commitment to women’s health and wellness, describing the female journalists’ breast cancer project as part of their broader mission to build a healthier and more informed society.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women globally, affecting more than 2.1 million women annually and accounting for the highest number of cancer-related deaths. WHO recommends that women aged 50 to 69 years undergo regular mammography screening, while those with a family history or other risk factors should begin screening earlier.

Both Rabito Clinic and CDA Consult are urging all female journalists to take advantage of the free screenings and commit to regular check-ups — because early detection saves lives.
