Round 1! Bam!!

Round 1! Bam!!
27.07.2007 LISTEN

The morning was a bit cold and as usual we all looked forward to going about the day in the best possible way we could. Some of us left the house very early in high anticipation of what the day would bring.

Lately Ghanaians are not spared some outrageous news daily. This news cut across several aspects of our lives. The clergy could just treat us to the recent trend of quack pastors who if not 'raping' or 'sleeping with someone's wife (any difference?), are smartly duping their congregation and serving as multi visa connection men for all nations!

Better still, the energy crisis which I believe is a very serious issue and as such should not be politicized will be on the 'breakfast' table of most if not all of the newspapers and radio stations being…(yes you guessed it!) politicized!

But what happened this particular day and swept the 'attention' being fought for by the various outrageous news items came from nowhere than our own legislature.

Our Members of Parliament saddled with their daily stress and personal problems were busy at it again!

No, they were not debating on the floor of Parliament to enact laws to bring back the canning of children's buttocks at school!

And hey! They were not asking for another week of 'debating' on the energy crisis to 'showoff' how right each side is! No! No!

This time, the Minority in Parliament were busy having an in-house bout! Yes! A dis….oops! Sorry o! An Honorable Member of Parliament decided enough is enough!

Not only did he have to think about going back home to enjoy a night of darkness later in the evening, nor put up with the incessant bugging from his constituents, nor listen to a bunch of his colleagues making themselves 'useful' on the floor by debating on hot issues to which he usually makes no contribution anyway.

This time he had to put up with a colleague MP from the same political divide courteously asking him to give him way! How annoying!! (Or is it?). Anyway this time he was ready to vent his spleen on anybody ready to be at the receiving end. And vent he did! Whaat!! Thank God Parliament had a clinic for such emergencies!! I think listening to the news later in the evening, Peace Fm stole the show with their wild Twi exaggerations!! Ei! Peace FM! I am sure they heard the slap all the way at Achimota!

Anyway, dear reader, these are the sort of 'honorable' Members chosen to make decisions for us in Parliament and represent our views. I believe it is about time the NDC stopped playing politics with the energy crisis and spending too much time commenting on the NPP Presidential candidates and rather concentrate on getting these 'mute' yet violent members out of their party!! Come 2008, I don't think the NDC in their current 'I care for you' state, will be ready to go on air and explain such shameful acts as my dear Honorable Bagbin was doing on the airwaves that evening. Poor Bagbin!

I am praying very hard that this is not a prelude to subsequent bouts anytime soon. And to his constituents, who will you vote for come 2008? Another 'one'?

I believe instead of thinking too much about the NPP government which is not doing bad by the way, the NDC should rather focus on how to give the NPP 'a good challenge' by buying themselves more time in getting rid of these extremely violent members! His act was so immature and I have to say the Minority Leader and Hon. E.T. Mensah were right this time by outrightly condemning this act and not putting the blame on the NPP!(or am I speaking too early?)
