Press Release Exposing Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi's dishonesty regarding FGR claims
THU, 02 MAY 2024 LISTEN

The NDC-Prestea Huni Valley constituency is deeply concerned by the recent press statement issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) regarding the recapitalization of the Prestea-Bogoso mine by Future Global Resources (FGR). We have taken notice of the discrepancies in the statement, and we would like to set the record straight.

1. It is deeply troubling to note the glaring contradiction between the promises made by the Chairperson of the Minerals Commission, Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, and the recent press statement issued by the MLNR regarding the recapitalization of the Mine. Mrs Oteng Gyasi had previously assured the public that investors have been shortlisted to bring the mine back to life. However, the letter issued by the MLNR does not mention any such investors or signing of any agreements. Instead, the Ministry has given FGR another deadline of 120 days to raise the necessary capital to recapitalized the mine, pay all outstanding salaries to the workers, and ensure that the mine is fully operational before the expiration of the deadline. It is evident that Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi misled the public.

2. This blatant discrepancies not only undermines the credibility of the government's approach to the revitalization of the mine but also reflects poorly on the honesty and integrity of Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi. Her false claims have caused confusion and concern among stakeholders, particularly the workers and the community at large who rely on the mine for their livelihoods.

3. We would like to emphasize that the Minerals Commission, under the leadership of Mrs. Oteng Gyasi, has consistently made promises to the workers and the communities affected by the mine's closure but has failed to deliver on those promises. We urge the public to be aware of the situation and support us as we continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary actions to ensure that the mine is fully operational.

4. We also call on both MLNR and the Minerals Commission to provide clarity on this matter and ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed of any developments regarding the recapitalization of the mine.

The NDC remains committed to advocating for transparency and accountability in all matters.
