The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Agona West, Hon Cynthia Mamle Morrison, suffered a surprising defeat at the party's Parliamentary elections held at Agona Swedru last Saturday.

In her third attempt to secure the party's nomination as the Parliamentary Candidate for the NPP in the upcoming December 7th General Elections, she fell short as Mr. Chris Arthur, the Director of Technical Services of the Youth Employment Agency, emerged victorious with 240 votes out of the 936 cast.

The race, which included four other candidates, saw Mr. Ben Yamoah securing the second position with 221 votes, followed by Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison with 152 votes. Mr. Yawson Otoo and Mr. Joseph Afankwa, popularly known as Kojo Addo, received 168 and 155 votes respectively, with four ballots rejected.

The well-attended elections were conducted in a transparent and fair manner by the Agona West Municipal Directorate of the Electoral Commission, led by Mr. Annobil Forson.

The NPP in the Agona West constituency was unable to participate in the Parliamentary primaries for constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament due to a Court injunction filed by one of the aspirants, necessitating the need for the elections to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the party.

In his victory speech, Mr. Chris Arthur expressed gratitude to the delegates for their peaceful conduct during the elections and pledged to work diligently to retain the Agona West Parliamentary Seat for the NPP. He called for unity among party members and competitors, emphasizing the power of unity in achieving success.

Meanwhile, the Agona West constituency Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, congratulated Mr. Chris Arthur on his impressive victory. He commended Arthur's dedication and commitment to serving the party and constituents, acknowledging the trust and support he garnered from the electorate.

Alhaji Gibrine Tanko extended appreciation to all aspirants for their participation in the democratic process and thanked polling station executives and election officers for ensuring a fair and transparent voting process. He emphasized the importance of unity and peace within the party, highlighting the need to prioritize cooperation and understanding to overcome challenges and work towards a bright future for the constituency and Ghana as a whole.

In conclusion, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko reiterated congratulations to Mr. Chris Arthur and wished him success as he embarked on the journey of serving the people in the Agona West Constituency.
