The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed claims that an alleged robbery suspect arrested at a mining site in Nyamesom in the Ashanti Region is a soldier.

In a press statement issued dated March 25, the Director General of Public Relations at GAF, Brigadier General E Aggrey-Quashie said their investigations revealed the suspect has no ties with the institution.

"Our investigation shows that the alleged suspect is not a soldier of the GAF, neither has the institution deployed the said identified person to perform such duties at the said Mining Site. He has no ties whatsoever with GAF," the statement signed by Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie said in part.

The GAF clarified that it has not deployed any personnel to provide security at the said mining site.

It warned that persons impersonating soldiers to commit crimes will be dealt with strictly if arrested.

"GAF wishes to caution all persons who use military accoutrements without authorisation that they would be severely dealt with by the law when caught," part of the statement said.

It further advised the public to promptly report suspicious individuals dressed in military uniforms to the nearest army or police station for necessary action.

The defense force also called on media houses to verify information with it before publication to avoid tarnishing its image.

The development comes after reports emerged that a 27-year-old man allegedly posing as a soldier was arrested during an attempted robbery at the Nyamesom mining site in the Ashanti Region.
