Diaspora (UK & Ireland) Cecilia Asaga, National Executive Committee Member of NDC speaks at inauguration of Leicester Branch
MAR 6, 2024 LISTEN

I stand before you today with a profound sense of purpose and determination, as we gather here to inaugurate yet another crucial branch of the National Democratic Congress in Leicester. It is an honour to address you all as we embark on this significant journey together. This momentous occasion marks the 14th branch we have established in the UK/Ireland, a testament to our unwavering commitment to growth and progress.

As we gather here in Leicester, we cannot ignore the challenges that our beloved Ghana faces. The state of our nation is one of mess and hopelessness for far too many of our fellow Ghanaians under the incompetent leadership of the Nana-Bawumia administration. But amidst these challenges, there is hope. There is hope because we have a vision, a plan, and a track record of delivering results. We stand at a crossroads, and it is up to us to pave the way for a brighter future. Ghanaians across the nation are looking up to the NDC to rescue and build the country we all yearn for. While we may not currently hold the reins of power, the visionary policy proposals put forth by our esteemed flagbearer, H.E John Dramani Mahama, particularly the concept of a 24-hour economy, have captured the hearts and minds of our fellow citizens.

The resonance of this idea extends not only within the borders of Ghana but has reached the diaspora and beyond, garnering support from various corners of the globe. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your dedication and support. Together, we have embraced the visionary leadership of our flagbearer, H. E. John Dramani Mahama, and his groundbreaking proposal for a 24-hour economy. This policy has not only captured the hearts of Ghanaians but has also resonated across the diaspora and beyond.

Today marks the inauguration of our 14th branch in the UK/Ireland, a testament to our unwavering commitment to growth and inclusivity. Politics, my friends, is about numbers – and with each new branch, we strengthen our foundation and expand our reach. But let us remember, numbers alone are not enough; unity is the cornerstone of our success.is not enough to have the best strategies; we must mobilize and win elections convincingly. As Serena Williams's father wisely advised her, put the game at the centre, showcasing your victories for all to see. In the same vein, we must unite and present a formidable force to secure victory in the upcoming election.

The diaspora chapters play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the upcoming election. We rely on your expertise and intellectual experience to navigate the complexities of the electoral process. Together, we must stand united in our shared goal of securing victory for the NDC. In the coming days, all executives will undergo orientation and training from the party school, equipping them with the ideologies and principles that define us as members of the NDC. Let us embrace this opportunity to deepen our understanding and commitment to our cause.

In closing, I urge each and every one of you to remain steadfast in your resolve, for our journey has only just begun. Together, let us build the Ghana we all desire – a Ghana of prosperity, unity, and hope. But let us remember, my fellow NDC members, that politics is not just about rhetoric or promises. It is about action, organization, and mobilization.

Thank you.
