The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region has expressed concern over the summoning of Ankobeahene of the Begoro Stool, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council.

The NDC suspects that the move is an attempt to divert attention on underlying chieftaincy disputes.

The Ankobeahene face allegations for endorsing the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, leading to his summoning by the traditional council.

The hearing on the matter is scheduled for February 19.

Mark-Oliver Kevor, the NDC Eastern Regional Chairman, voiced the party's concerns during an interview on Citi FM.

Kevor urged the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council to dismiss the case, suggesting that someone may be manipulating the council to serve their own interests.

“We seriously feel that somebody just wants to make somebody a scapegoat and is using the traditional council as a tool. Somebody is hiding behind these issues to fight his cause," Kevor asserted.

He highlights an underlying chieftaincy dispute in Begoro, implying that the dispute might be the real issue.

“And it is the reason why I strongly want to give Ofori Panyin Fie [Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council] the benefit of the doubt to dismiss this issue with the contempt that it deserves, especially when it seeks to pitch one political party against the traditional council," Kevor emphasized.
