Chief of Kade, Osabarima Agyare Tinadu II, has accused the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwaebibirem in the Eastern Region, Mr Seth Kwame Antwi Boasiako, of obstructing him from fulfilling his constitutional rights and duties.
The chief claimed that, on the MCE's orders, he was barred from attending a national event where he was scheduled to deliver an address on February 12, 2024.
Upon arriving at the venue for the swearing-in of newly elected Assembly Members, Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II was reportedly denied access by police officers, leading to a tense situation that required additional security personnel from other districts to restore calm.
Reacting to the incident, the chief described the MCE's actions as unlawful and disrespectful to his position.
He mentioned his efforts to pacify the youth of Kade, preventing them from taking matters into their own hands in response to the alleged injustice.
Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II expressed concern that since the MCE's appointment, there has been a failure to recognise him as the legitimate Chief of Kade, which could potentially impact the peace and development of the area.
Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II made this accusation when speaking with the media after the incident.
Recently, the Kade Magistrate Court dismissed a police application seeking an order to compel Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II and four others to sign a bond pledging to keep peace in the town.
The police had expressed concerns about potential chaos during the chief's attendance at several funerals between February 2 to 4, 2024.
However, the court ruled that it lacked jurisdiction as the matter was before a High Court.
In response, the chief's lawyer, Nkrabeah Effah Dartey, emphasised his client's legitimacy, citing a ruling by the Kumasi High Court that had quashed the registration of Asare Twe and the gazetting, confirming Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II as the chief until a Supreme Court ruling.
