The managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has shared his view on the national address by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In his address last Wednesday, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party said, “I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver's seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities.”

This has generated a lot of conversation in the last few days with many sharing contrasting views.

According to Kwesi Pratt Jnr, there is a problem with the analogy of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking in a discussion on Pan African TV, the renowned journalists said, “So for the last seven years all that Bawumia did was shouting Abeka-Lapaz, Abeka-Lapaz, Abeka-Lapaz and he enjoyed all the things just for shouting Abeka-Lapaz. And that’s how he sees himself? He sees himself just like an ‘aplanke’? For seven years he was an aplanke? I can’t believe it.”

He further explained that if Dr. Bawumia wants to tell Ghanaians that he was just a mate, then it will be difficult for him to be trusted going into the 2024 general elections.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr said after several praises heaped on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the key role he has played in his government by his boss President Akufo-Addo, he cannot turn around and refuse to take the blame for the failures of the government.

“But that’s how Bawumia sees himself. In any case, all of us joined a bus that was going to Nsawam. When we get to Caprice, the driver parks the car and says I’m coming and goes into a blue kiosk. He goes to drink [alcohol] and takes an energy drink. The aplanke knows this is what his boss has done. He doesn’t protest, he doesn’t alert the passengers, nothing. Then he says one day I will be the driver so I won't talk. My brother that bus will not get to Ofankor. It will crash and kill the people in it.

"If that happens are you telling me the aplanke is innocent and bears no responsibility for the accident? What kind of an aplanke is that?" Kwesi Pratt Jnr questioned.
