The New Patriotic Party (NPP) branch in Germany says it is thrilled by the latest amazing digital technology innovation spearheaded by the Flagbearer of the party and Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The comments follow the introduction of a digital taxi service for Ghanaian Taxi Drivers, tagged 'Tap n' Go.

The new public transport initiative was launched in Accra last week by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in partnership with the Office of the Vice President.

The Tap n' Go app, which is available for download on the Google Play store and Apple App Store operates like the established ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Yango and Bolt.

The developers say it is currently being piloted in some parts of Accra (Airport, East Legon, University of Ghana, Circle/Kaneshie area, and Dansoman) before it is fully rolled out nationwide next year.

The innovation is the result of a collaboration between the GPRTU and the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as part of efforts to address the concerns of the GPRTU of losing their business to online foreign taxi services.

In a release from NPP Germany, it said it is not surprising at all, considering the level of technology advances that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has continuously demonstrated to drive digital inclusion in Ghana.

“The Tap n Go Transport App is one of the many already-in-progress digital initiatives under Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

“This clearly indicates that Ghana stands to benefit so much in terms of Digitalisation if Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should take over the Presidency from next year December 2024,” NPP Germany said in its release.

It added, “We will continue to urge the good people of Ghana to vote for Dr. Bawumia and NPP to break the 8 in order to retain the NPP so that the next NPP administration in the helm of governance will continue to give off its best.”

This clearly indicates that Ghana stands to benefit so much in terms of Digitalisation if Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should take over the Presidency from next year December 2024.

There is no doubt that transport and Ride-hailing technology has contributed immensely to digital inclusion all over the world, by providing convenient transportation options for people who may have faced mobility challenges or not.

The Tap n Go APP is highly commendable since it will allow the public to gain access to transportation services by easily hailing a ride via the use of smartphones.
