In anticipation of the District Assembly Election, a strategic gathering took place where the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare, along with the Police management board, convened with the heads of the National Elections Security Taskforce.

Among the distinguished attendees were the comptroller-general of the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi, director-general of prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir, Chief Fire Officer of Ghana Fire Service, Mr. Julius A. Kuunuor, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensa, and the Chief of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama.

In his opening remarks, IGP Dr. George Akufo Dampare emphasized the integral role the National Election Security Taskforce plays in the democratic process. He noted that measures were being diligently put in place to fortify security for the upcoming district assembly elections nationwide.

"We've decided, in consultation with the heads of various security forces, to establish the National Security Task Force to operationalize and strengthen the security arrangement for the upcoming election. It's for this purpose that we are gathered here today to firm up the arrangement for the election," he stated.

Dr. Dampare commended the collaborative efforts of the heads of various security forces in maintaining peace over the years.

Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the Chief of the Defence Staff, highlighted the significance of the district assembly election as a precursor to the general election in December 2024, underscoring their commitment to fulfilling their constitutionally mandated duty to safeguard the country.

Madam Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, stressed the importance of not underestimating any election, citing past experiences.

She expressed the Commission's dedication to ensuring a peaceful election, lauding IGP Dampare for his leadership in activating the national and regional election security task force.

The Electoral Commission affirmed its commitment to collaborate with the national election security task force and other stakeholders, aiming to ensure the upcoming District Assembly Election and the 2024 General Elections in Ghana are credible, transparent and peaceful.
