The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has pledged urgent action to safeguard the Sogakope Bridge from potential damage due to the spillage from the Akosombo dam.

After inspecting the bridge on Monday, the Minister stated that while there was currently no cause for alarm, all necessary precautions must be taken.

"We will do everything possible to prevent the spillage water from reaching the bottom of the bridge," he affirmed.

The Minister led a team of engineers from the Ministry and its agencies to assess the situation at the Sogakope bridge in the Volta Region.

He announced that GHc5 million has already been allocated to rehabilitate access roads that could be impacted by the spillage.

Although water levels are contained, the Akosombo dam spillage has raised concerns about flooding downstream.

The Sogakope bridge crosses the Volta River and it is a critical transport link in the region.

Mr Amoako-Attah stressed that the utmost care must be taken to safeguard the structural integrity of the bridge.

"This is a vital asset for transportation and commerce in the Volta Region. We will take every precaution to protect it," he stated.

The Minister assured residents that the government is keenly monitoring the situation and willing to take swift action.

With proactive measures in place, Ghanaians can remain confident that the Sogakope Bridge will withstand any potential flooding effects.
