Ghanaian broadcaster Paul Adom Otchere has criticized Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for being overly emotional during his appearance at the parliamentary ad hoc committee probing the leaked tape to oust him from office.

According to Mr. Otchere, the IGP is only seeking public sympathy.

He said during his Good Evening Ghana program on Metro TV, that Dampare did not demonstrate the necessary masculinity to manage the Ghana Police Service.

“You Dr. Dampare they brought you to the parliamentary enquiry so that you can answer and they have given you the platform so the people of Ghana can hear the truth, all you do is to cry, a whole police crying, COP Commissioner of Police, you are crying.

“He is crying because three police officers have said something about him that are untrue and is very painful so he is crying. If I were the President and I employed him, I will tell him Chief, I don’t think that you can continue your thing, I mean why was he crying, to seek public sympathy, who tells him he needs public sympathy, he needs to design the system and deal with it,” Paul Adom Otchere stated.

Three police officers; COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George L. Asare and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyabi were captured in a leaked tape plotting the oust the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, seeking the help of the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu.

Bugri Naabu recorded the conversation secretly which got leaked, causing a public uproar, which resulted in parliament referring the matter to an ad hoc committee to investigate the controversy.

Dr Dampare told the committee that all the allegations leveled against him by his subordinates were falsehoods which have no basis.

He also disputed claims by one of his accusers, COP Alex George Mensah that he was the worst IGP Ghana has ever had.
